After the success of the first edition in 2023, Prométhée Earth Intelligence, CNES, and the Monaco Space Affairs Office are organizing the second edition of the Ocean Space Forum on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in the prestigious setting of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.
Once again this year, the Forum will bring together prominent figures from the realms of research, politics, and economics to highlight the contribution of New Space technologies to the preservation and sustainable management of our most precious resource: the Ocean.
The program will feature captivating roundtable discussions that, through the lens of space, will address essential topics such as the preservation of marine ecosystems, the development of the blue economy, the fight against climate change and its impacts on the oceans, and the conservation of marine resources.
OSF 2024 will mark an important milestone on the road to the third United Nations Conference on the Ocean, jointly organized by the governments of France and Costa Rica, which will take place in Nice from June 9 to 14, 2025. This conference will play a key role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 14, which aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for development.
Let’s meet on July 2, 2024, in Monaco to contribute to shaping a future where New Space offers concrete solutions to preserve the Ocean and its riches for future generations.

More than ever, the ocean needs space. Space technology shapes our understanding and management of the ocean. The data collected enables scientists and policymakers to make informed decisions on the best ways to protect it. Sustainable management of seas and oceans requires concerted global efforts, and international organizations play a crucial role in this endeavor.

While all countries face climate change, some are more vulnerable than others. This panel discussion among four countries from different continents will provide perspective on various climate challenges and highlight the crucial role of NewSpace.
Coastal cities are increasingly exposed to sea-level rise. Faced with this phenomenon, space technologies provide a lever for anticipating measures to protect their populations.
By offering the ability to monitor vast oceanic expanses in real-time, space imaging enables surveillance over sensitive marine areas worldwide and facilitates the identification of potential illicit activities. Bridging the preservation of resources and territorial integrity, and aiding decision-making, space technology serves the interests of maritime security and sovereignty.
Space technology contributes to the development of a blue economy. The sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, livelihood management, and preserving the health of ocean ecosystems is becoming a reality.
This session is dedicated to biodiversity protection, action in favor of Marine Protected Areas, and monitoring the capacity for blue carbon sequestration. Space data provides essential information for the global and sustainable observation of coastal ecosystems that capture blue carbon (primarily through coral reefs, seagrass meadows, mangroves, and salt marshes).
This session aims to highlight the issues of the UNOC in 2025 and the importance of scientific research for preserving marine ecosystems.
This legal discussion will aim to explore the original and current connections between the legal frameworks of the two major international domains: the sea and outer space.
Space technology allows for a better understanding of the oceans. When combined with data from other sensors (notably in situ), space data provides a more comprehensive view of the ocean’s situation.
